Vinyl decking. Built for where it matters most.

Two product lines, engineered for two very different outdoor environments. Find the right Valordek system for your project — whether it's a balcony over a living room or a rooftop terrace over a whole building.

Is your deck a candidate?

What makes a deck a candidate for vinyl decking.

If any of these are true, vinyl decking is almost certainly the right answer.

1

The deck is over a living space

Any leak through this deck reaches a room, suite, or unit below. Liquid coatings will not keep this watertight long-term. You need a continuous membrane with welded flashing.

2

The deck sees freeze-thaw or full UV

BC, Alberta, and any climate with real seasonal swing. Coatings expand and contract until they crack. UV-stable PVC vinyl doesn't.

3

You want a finished surface, not paint

Vinyl decking is the surface — not a coat over a different surface. Wood Look, Stone Look, or Classic patterns; walks cleanly, doesn't fade, doesn't need re-coating every few years.

Vinyl decking shows up wherever water needs to stay out.

Beyond balconies and rooftops, here's where else Valordek dealers install vinyl decking.

Patios & walk-out decks

Ground-level concrete patios that need waterproofing — over basement living spaces.

Pool decks & surrounds

Slip-resistant textured surface. Sealed at every edge. Designed for constant water exposure.

Stairs & landings

Continuous wraps over stair treads and landings — no caulked joints to fail.

Entry & walkway decks

High-traffic entryway decks that need to look good and stay watertight.

Questions we get

Vinyl decking applications FAQ.

What types of decks can use vinyl decking?

Vinyl decking is engineered for any walkable outdoor surface that needs to be waterproof — most commonly balconies and rooftop decks, but also patios over living space, pool surrounds, entry decks, stair landings, and walkways. The substrate underneath needs to be structurally sound (plywood or concrete are most common) and properly prepped.

What's the difference between balcony and rooftop vinyl decking?

Valordek makes two product lines. Fuzzy-Back (68mil) is engineered for balconies — heavy backing that bonds aggressively to plywood and concrete, 10-year waterproofing warranty, DIY-friendly. Smooth-Back (60mil) is engineered for rooftops — Class A & C fire rating required by building code, heat-welded PVC flashing at every transition, 15-year waterproofing warranty.

Is vinyl decking right for my deck?

Yes if any of these apply: (1) the deck is over a living space, (2) the existing surface is leaking or showing failure, (3) you want a finished outdoor surface instead of paint or coating, (4) the deck sees real foot traffic, freeze-thaw cycles, or full UV. The best way to confirm is to talk to a local Valordek dealer — they'll assess your substrate and confirm the right product.

Can vinyl decking go over an existing deck surface?

In most cases, yes. If the existing substrate (plywood or concrete) is structurally sound and the old coating is well-bonded, Valordek can be installed over it after proper prep. If the substrate is rotting or the coating is failing, those areas need to be repaired or replaced first.

How long does vinyl decking last on a typical residential application?

Fuzzy-Back carries a 10-year waterproofing warranty (5-year appearance). Smooth-Back carries 15 years on waterproofing (5-year appearance). Real-world installs routinely last well beyond the warranty when properly maintained — the UV-stable PVC doesn't break down in normal use. Read the warranty terms.

Do all vinyl decking applications need a professional installer?

No. Most balcony applications (Fuzzy-Back) are DIY-friendly — many homeowners install it themselves with basic tools. Rooftop applications (Smooth-Back) require a Valordek-certified installer because of the heat-welded flashing and fire-rated installation requirements. See installation accessories →

Not sure which one is right for your project?

Talk to a Valordek dealer. They'll look at your substrate, confirm the right product (Fuzzy-Back or Smooth-Back), and walk you through warranty + code requirements for your application.
