How much does Valordek cost?

Valordek vinyl decking membrane is priced at $3.74 per square foot. Total project cost depends on several factors:

  • Deck size: Larger areas have better per-square-foot economics
  • Substrate condition: May need plywood replacement or concrete repair before installation
  • Accessories: Adhesive, sealant, flashing, edge trim, and drainage components
  • Installation: DIY vs professional installer

For a residential balcony project, the membrane cost is one part of the total project. Accessories, surface preparation, and installation (if hiring a professional) add to the final number. Contact a dealer for a project-specific quote.

How resistant is Valordek to sun exposure? Will my deck fade quickly?

Valordek vinyl decking is manufactured with UV screens and stabilizers that resist fading and degradation from sun exposure. The material is tested to perform in temperatures from -40°C to 80°C and is designed for year-round outdoor exposure in Canadian climates.

While some gradual colour change is natural over many years of direct sun exposure, our appearance warranty covers against excessive fading for 5 years. The waterproofing performance is unaffected by UV exposure throughout the full warranty period (10 or 15 years depending on product line).

How can I extend the life of my deck?

The best way to extend the life of your deck is to avoid using chemicals on your vinyl— just use soap and water! When dealing with tough stains, Valordek offers cleaning and rejuvenation products that are made especially for vinyl.

What kind of maintenance does a vinyl deck require?

Vinyl decking is relatively maintenance free! A quick wash a few times year to keep the deck looking new is all it takes.

Do you offer any other products besides vinyl decking?

Beyond vinyl decking membrane, Valordek offers a complete line of installation accessories:

  • Adhesives: Contact cement for Fuzzy-Back membrane installation
  • Sealants: For joints, edges, and penetrations

How-To

Can I install Valordek on my own or do I need a professional?

Most Valordek products are designed for straightforward do-it-yourself installation by homeowners or contractors.

Fuzzy-Back (68 mil) uses contact cement adhesive and can be a DIY project with proper surface preparation. You'll need a clean, smooth substrate (5/8" tongue-and-groove plywood or untreated concrete), quality adhesive, and basic hand tools.

Smooth-Back (60 mil) requires heat-welded PVC seams and should be installed by a professional. Heat welding requires specialized equipment and training.

Is there any surface Valordek can't be installed on?

Valordek is best installed on 5/8 TG plywood or untreated concrete. Valordek should not be installed on the following:

  1. Painted Surface
  2. Treated Concrete
  3. Treated Lumber

How often do I care or clean a Valordek?

Vinyl decking is low-maintenance. For routine care:

  • Regular cleaning: Sweep or hose off leaves, dirt, and debris
  • Spot cleaning: Use mild soap and warm water with a soft brush for stains or marks
  • Avoid: Harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, pressure washers on high settings, and sharp objects dragged across the surface
  • Annual check: Inspect sealant at wall connections, edges, and drain areas. Reseal if needed.
  • Snow removal: Use a plastic shovel or broom. Avoid metal shovels that could scratch the membrane.

Our Care and Cleaning Instruction PDF covers everything you need to know.

What goes under vinyl decking?

The substrate under vinyl decking is typically 5/8" tongue-and-groove plywood for residential applications, or untreated concrete for commercial projects. The surface must be:

  • Clean: Free of debris, dust, and old adhesive
  • Dry: No active moisture
  • Smooth: Sanded and free of raised nail heads, gaps, or rough spots
  • Sloped: Minimum 1/4" per foot slope for proper drainage

In some installations, additional components go between the substrate and the membrane: drainage mats, cant strips at wall connections, and metal flashing at edges.
