Alberta Weather Eats Decks Alive

If you've owned a deck in Alberta for more than a few years, you already know. The freeze-thaw cycles. The hail in July. The chinook that takes you from -20°C to +10°C in twelve hours and back again. The prairie sun that bleaches everything it touches.

Wood doesn't stand a chance. It cracks. It splinters. It cups. It needs to be sanded and restained every couple of years just to look acceptable. Composite holds up better but it still scratches, fades, and fails at the seams. Paint and sealers crack at the first hard freeze.

There's a better way to surface a deck in this climate. Here's what Valordek actually delivers:

Tested -40°C to 80°C

Valordek vinyl is tested across the full Canadian temperature range. It stays flexible in deep cold, stable in summer heat, and doesn't crack at every freeze-thaw cycle the way coatings and paints do.

UV-Stable. Won't Fade.

UV-stabilized PVC built for prairie sun. The colour you install is the colour it stays — for 10-15 years, not 18 months. No bleaching. No drying out. No annual restain.

Heat-Welded. 100% Waterproof.

Every seam is heat-welded into a single continuous waterproof surface. Bonded to the substrate with contact adhesive. Hail, snowmelt, spring rain — nothing gets through. CGSB-37.54 certified, Intertek tested.

Built by Waterproofing Pros

Designed by a family of waterproofing professionals with 25+ years of field experience. Every product decision was made by people who've actually been on rooftops and balconies seeing what fails and why.

Quick Answers

Will it actually handle Alberta winters?

Yes. Valordek is tested from -40°C to +80°C — the full Canadian temperature range. The PVC stays flexible in deep cold, which is exactly when paints, sealers, and rigid coatings crack. Freeze-thaw is what it was designed for.

Can it handle hail?

Vinyl flexes under impact rather than shattering or pitting like brittle coatings and soft wood. We've had Alberta installs come through hailstorms with no damage. It's not bulletproof, but it handles prairie weather better than wood, composite, or paint-on coatings.

Is there a Valordek dealer in my city?

We have certified contacts in Calgary, Edmonton, and growing throughout Alberta — and we ship product directly anywhere in the province. Reach out and we'll let you know who's closest. If there's no installer in your town, we can ship materials directly and walk you through DIY install.

Can it go over my existing wood deck?

Yes. With proper substrate prep, Valordek installs directly over your existing plywood. The surface needs to be sound, flat, and dry — we'll walk you through the prep, or your installer will handle it. You're not tearing the whole deck out.

Is it really waterproof, or is that just marketing?

Certified to CGSB-37.54. Intertek tested. CCMC approved. Heat-welded seams. Contact adhesive bond to substrate. Backed by a 10-15 year waterproofing warranty.

Can I install it myself?

Yes! Our 68mil Fuzzy-Back is DIY-friendly with proper substrate prep. We sell all the materials and accessories you need — adhesive, seam weld, flashing — and we'll walk you through the process. If you'd rather have a pro handle it, we'll connect you with a certified dealer in your area.

How do I get started?

Fill out the form above, call us at 1-888-400-6155, or text us on WhatsApp. We'll walk you through colour options and connect you with the right install path for your project.

What's the warranty?

Wood Look and Stone Look (Walnut Plank, Smoke Grey, Ash Plank, Marble Grey, Marble Beige, River Rock): 10-year waterproofing warranty + 5-year appearance warranty. These are all 68mil with fleece backing.

Classic (Flint Taupe, Madison Grey, Flint Grey, Madison Taupe, Grey Stone, Beige Stone): Available in both 68mil (10-year waterproofing) and 60mil (15-year waterproofing), both with a 5-year appearance warranty.
